    Keep the cage or not?

Hello everyone. I just acquired a newly painted E30 M3 and it doesn't have a drivetrain yet. My dilemma is that it came with a really well crafted 6 point full cage. Not painted but the welds are top notch. I don't have plans to track the car in the immediate future, and the wife would like to drive the car with ease. She has a hard time getting in because of the door cross brace, and the cage would render it a two seater. I can keep the cage and somehow paint it (really tight against the panels, it is supposed to be), or take it off. Taking it off will destroy it, and it would be a shame. Thoughts?

Remove it. Cages are sketchy for street only cars. If you crash with no helmet say goodbye to your forehead/face.

Why completely remove it? Turn it into a 4 point so you have good rollover protection while keeping your face unchanged in the event of an accident. Where in SoCal are you? Is love to come see the car!

^ Seatbelts stretch. There's a good chance that some part of your head will hit some part of the rollbar in the event of a collision (unless of course the hoop is quite far back in the cabin). The chances of rolling over are far less than the chances of a normal crash.

Remove it as others have said no need for a primarily street car.

Oh boy...you bought a roller with full cage in hopes of turning it into a street car? Is this correct? That's a tough one. Either remove it completely or half of it.

Well, I didn't buy it. It was a straight trade for a '78 911SC that is beat to shit needing a full eng and trans rebuild. I'm leaning towards removing it completely. It would be nice to have seats in the back so I can take at least one of the triplets. All that is missing are the eng, trans, and diff. I just bought a 98 M3 parts car so the drivetrain will go in soon. I just have to get a diff as well.

Oh I see. Yeah, probably best if you put kids in the back.
