325is parking brake cable with 318ti rears?

I have the 318ti rear subframe, trailing arms, and brakes.

Will the e30 325is parking brake cables work or should I be using the 318ti cables?

May be a dumb question but I just thought I'd ask

Your E30 cables will work with the ti TA's, it is the same mechanism.

I just got home from doing this tonight....

If u have an E30 and going 5 stud via Ti subframe beware the TI Handbrake cable will NOT work... There is a metal sleeve that will get in ur way...meaning you cant feed the cable through into the cabin.

So the fix would be to use your STD E30 handbrake cable ... which i just figured out the hard way....

Question what offset wheel to run in the are with Mtech II bodykit E30???? my ET20's on TI rear hit my fenders in a very bad way....

I have the 318ti trailing arms with the parking cables attached. What, exactly, is the issue with the 318ti cables that they won't feed into the cabin?

To swap the cables out ahead of time I would need to get some extra cables and then mess with the parking brake mechanism.

Can the 318ti cables work with modification to the metal band or is this strictly a No-Go?

why not just use your stock ones? they're already in and adjusted.

Because they're on the trailing arms I have in the car now. Given the time, I would pull the TA's , change the bearing, swap components, etc.

I won't have that much down time for the car, it's my daily driver.

My plan is to swap the entire rear subframe, TA's, etc. The 318ti TA's wil get new bearings, the subframe will have the camber/toe mod done. The actual swap shouldn't take more than a long afternoon that way.

Last thing I want to mess with is swapping the parking brake cables, too!

disconnecting your parking cables takes no more downtime than 5-10 minutes, because you'll have to be installing bakes anyway.

Or go to your local junk yard and grab a pair of cables to avoid those agonizing 10 minutes.

So how is the cable different? I don't have the two to compare side-by-side and haven't done it yet.

10 minutes? It's already taken me an hour to pull one cable out of the arm! I had to destroy it to get it out and it involved liberal use of oxy-acetylene. I would not take getting the cable out easily for granted.

I'll be buying new e30 cables.

They won't slide in to the tubes that bring them in the car to the lever.

E30 cables are the only way to do it from what i have seen.

I just got the e30 cables in the mail...

comparing them side by side the e30 parking brake cables have a much shorter black body and much longer cable coming out of th end that feeds into the cabin.

Stock E30 cables worked like a charm for me on my 318ti/Z3(1.9L) rear swap.

I would say the chances or successfully removing and re-using original e30 cables are asymptotically approaching zero. The metal sleeves were so tightly fused into the hub that I had to destroy them to get them out.

The new e30 ones had plastic and won't have the same problem. (unless all e30 are plastic?)

The lesson is, don't count on re-using the cables, order new ones!

My new E30 parking brake cables that I ordered had a metal sleeve that pushed into the hub area. Maybe we bought from different manufacturers.
