The spacer is not a good idea and it very much kills the idea of this swap, but is doable.
Hint it weakens the weak spot.Current:

You wouldn't be by chance related to Dan Colegrove would you?
Why even post something like this and then become a complete dick about giving up the rest of the info?Originally posted by payney8We heard economics is american for card game t/f ? :PComment

Plus, I think it forces people to think for themselves. You wouldn't have done half the shit to your car had there not been a write up on it. You've been spoiled with step by step instructions on everything. Ever thought about what goes into doing it the First time??
Let him figure it out and get back to us.turk@gutenparts.com

Take it easy there man, he is in the middle of trying to figure out another way to do the rear 5 lug and probably doesn't have it worked out entirely yet, so WHY post misleading information at this TIME??????
+1
Because he's thinking out loud and trying things out. He's an innovator, and some people don't like like sharing all their hardwork untill its all done. I'm sure he's got him own friends and forums in Finland to share the actual build up with, and just comes here to let us in on the progress.

A new way to do rear 5-lug swap, e87/e90 hub.
I posted of selfish reasons, I wanted to be famous, the great grandfather of cheap 5 lug swap with "big" brakes. Silly me.
I'm going to give you the rest of the info now, sorry for being a complete dick, I hope you can overcome this this some day.
God I love/hate R3v.
In reality I didn't want to tell more specific info, beacuse I wasn't sure at all if this setup was going to work. Many people use search function and google to find info of this kind of swap. I personaly have googled a shitload of misinfo about these kinds of modification and learned the hard way that I've spend hundreds of euros to worthless crap that doesn't do the purpose someone claimed they do.
And to the topic summary:
-The e87/e90 hub will work with e30 trailingarms.
-NOT bolt on, hub must be machined down few mm's "under" the cv-joint nut and you must use spacer between the hub and bearing.
-The swap will make splines between cv-joint and hub weaker, since the splines touch on each other on smaller area than original. Not a big difference, but might make difference in HiPo application.
-The spacer is 5,5mm thick and the other end must be radiused same way as the original bearing inner race is.
-The hub is machined down beacuse the cv-jonit stub would otherwise be too short and the nut wouldn't go deep enough.
-This setup would give you exactly same offset as original e30 4-lug hub.
-E30 e-brake still fits behind the hub.
-The spacer can't be between the rotor and hub without even more complex machining, since the rotor is hubcentric and the hub has fatter portition for disc centering.
- The 300mm.de rear kit will be bolt on with this setup, the 300mm.de kit is just e46 328i rotors, calipers, and caliper adaptors(and centering rings that are not needed in this setup).
-If you have any machining abilities or you know a machinist(spelling? a person who works with e.g. a lathe) this options is cheaper than e30 m3 swap and z3 swap and with some patience with parts it can be cheaper than 318ti swap.
-E30 original ABS can be remained.
I will use this setup, if you wish to do this, think twice. I'm not claiming this to be ideal for anyone.
Feel free to ask anything, I might even post some pictures if you are nice to me.

hold on, you're saying making a spacer for the hub and bearing is easier than making same spacer for the rotors?
I really want to see pics, because the easier way would be to use e36 hubs and have a spacer, simply because e36 hub would fit into bearing and axle splines perfectly.Comment

All e36 hubs have more offset than e30 and my idea was to keep e30 stock offset, so that the 300mm.de kit would bolt on. E36 and e30 m3 hubs can be modified to have less offset but that again involves machining and the parts are more expensive.Current:
