Installed Sparco bar on an M42, then my car

What condition are Robbies motor mount's in?
I tired the Sparco off my m20 on the m42 with e304lyfe and it was resting on the intake mani. I would NOT go with adding spacers to make the sparco fit. If I were to put a sparco on my car, I would change the strut mount pins for longer ones prior to adding washers. Then again, I have seen those pins break....

m42 Sparco fitment seems to be just like some e30 m3s and some m20s...it will fit some with no hassle but not all....the sparco fit directly on my m20 with no jacking whatsoever..

What is wrong with a very small amount of washers?

[My opinion]How much thread was left after the washers were added...? If you have a sufficient amount, I would say you're ok. If not, I would personally not feel comfortable. [/My opinion]

Enough for the nut to full thread on. Loc-tite will be used on the final install as well.

Its not a matter of the nut coming lose, its a matter of the pin breaking. I would use new pins and nuts at least, they are cheap enough...

Yeah, I'd be kinda scared that the added leverage (from the bar being mounted higher on the stud) would cause enough stress for it to break.

I've had washers on my strut brace for over a year now on stock strut mounts.. they haven't broken yet. there is also plenty of thread for them to be torqued down correctly.

if moving the nut up higher affects it's strength, you're already doing so by adding a strut brace. a washer won't hurt anything.

Plus the Sparco red matches my brilliantrot engine bay perfectly.

Now, my first impression of the bar is mixed. It helped so much that my car understeers a whole lot more now

Do you think that the under steer is because you've put some positive camber in to the strut's ?

It's very marginal, I think its more from the lack of flex in the front end now.

It'd be interesting if you could have the camber measured with/with out the strut bar as an extra inch at the strut top's might give you 2 degree's + camber more than you had befor ?

iXs have reinforced strut towers anyway. I don't think the stress on an iX would be the same as that of a non-iX

I am not saying that they will break for sure. I was simply stating the reason why I wouldn't run it.

Adding a strut bar acts like adding a washer to some extent. Adding washers in addition to the strut bar is like adding multiple washers.

Strut bars stiffen the body and help to reduce the strain put on the body with lowered or stiffer suspension. That's a strut bar in a nut shell.

thanks so that means i should get new shocks and springs before i get a strut bar :)
