I have IE as well, got them cheap from Rob. They are fine, no issues being non-DOT.Comment

I've got the Earl's lines with the teflon coating. Had them on for probably 4-5 years now. I wouldn't think there should be anything rubbing on them either, but I remember one or two spots where there has been something in contact with them. Could have been a rock on the interstate for all I know. I'm not saying they're necessary, but if those stainless braids start to fray, they're going to start poking into the inner line. I guess that's the idea behind the teflon.Originally posted by CharlieThank you, someone else "gets it".Originally posted by boom-monkeyI have the IE ones. Got a great price on them.
I think they're great, do what they are supposed to do, and I've had no problems with them.
I think the Teflon coating is a bunch of BS. Nothing should be rubbing on your lines in the first place.
Anyways, I think that as long as you buy from a reputable company you'll be alright.

They aren't DOT approved, but that could be for some reason like they use a different style fitting, not necessarily because they're made poorly.

While it may give you some piece of mind having DOT approval, a lot of the time the reason things aren't DOT approved is that the manufacturer doesn't want to go through the hassle and cost of getting it.They aren't DOT approved, but that could be for some reason like they use a different style fitting, not necessarily because they're made poorly.
That is why a lot of things are listed as "off road use only". These items are perfectly safe but don't have the approval to be used on the street. Though realistically who is going to check to see if your particular lines are DOT approved?

None of those online distributors make their own lines and all of their products will work similarly. DOT approved lines are usually identical to ones that aren't approved. They're more expensive due to the fact that the mfg. has to get them approved.87 325IS - Delphin Grey/Cardinal

I'd definitely go for one with the teflon coating. My understanding of the coating is that it has nothing to do with the line rubbing on anything. Rather, the coating prevents dust, dirt and other road abrasives from working themselves into the SS weave to the plastic line. One this happens it can degrade and weaken your lines. The teflon keeps the lines clean and makes them last longer.Comment

You hit the nail on the head! Dirt under the stainless mesh rubs against the actual line and will wear on it. That's why all you see on off-road trucks and such is coated lines.Originally posted by JRoweI'd definitely go for one with the teflon coating.
