Scenario...

my left front brake started to hum while breaking. (light breaking). so i thougt it may be time for pads. the surface of the disk was smooth and not needing turned or anything. anyways, i took off the wheel and noticed that the allen bolt that holds one the disk has broken off. i thought that maybe the cause of humming. (since there was still life left on the pads) i drilled threw that bolt and used pb plaster and let it set for an hour or so. then i hammerd a tork head into there and tried to break it out. i must of had a piece of shit one because that broke off in there. and im thinking is this allen bolt in the hole tighten really nessary?

my question is, is it?

any sugustions?

thanks-zach

There is a small allen bolt that holds the rotor onto the hub, it can be left out but makes it a pain to get the rotor, wheel, and hub all lined back up and the lugbolts threaded back in.

There was a discussion earlier about how important the set screw is , a lot of people don't use them, a lot of people do. Make life easier and just keep them :P

oh man... i broke the upper timing belt tensioner bolt, then a drill bit, and an easy out bit. Trust me... your problem is eeeeaaasy. Anyway, if you can't get the drilled out with a regular drill, get a carbide bit, they'll chew through anything. Just don't break one of those.. My girlfriend's dad is a machinist, and he was able to make a couple. I don't think they sell that stuff in stores, maybe a machine shop can hook you up.

That happened to me when I was working on bimmerphile's car- Take the closest sized bit to the inner thread diameter you can get. I think I took a couple of the hub threads with me, but I got the bolt out and a new one screws in fine.
