    Scirocco discs + Saab binders

I was checking out unofficial bmw's E30 page and ran across a couple of tid-bits about being able to use 11" VW Scirocco discs on the front with Saab binders. Anyone here know more about this? I was unaware of this 'upgrade'....someone please elaborate.

Due to their coding, there isn't a direct link. First go here...

Then click E30, scroll down and click brakes, then see links labeled: "brake upgrade" or "strange brake upgrade." Either one mentions it.

An adapter is needed to space the caliper correctly

just like the bello kit =(

That is similar to one of Bello's earlier kits, maybe even the same one. I had not heard of using a Saab caliper though.

My version for "bigger" brakes is this one...

brembo brake disc, with brembo brake machine

            nice one :)
Coil-Overs also will be on my car =]

Brake kit here in Latvia costs ~500Eur
            2 discs (312mm), 2 brake machines, 2adapters

negative is that minimum is R16 rim, that i could put on these brakes :P

This was disscussed once before in another post. Try searching. I think there was some good info in there.

The scirrocco 16v only came with 10.1" rotors not 11". I know the corrado's came with 11" rotors on them and 4X100 lug spacing. I think saving your pennies for a 5 lug swap or BBK will net you more satisfaction, but I am as curious as anyone to know what parts might work.

Considering overall costs, the purchase of a rotor, caliper, and bracket (to space out the caliper) is much cheaper than a 5-lug swap. The amount and cost of parts associated with the 5-lug swap is much greater. I have 75% of parts for a full 5-lug swap, but the cost needed to work out everything else in the suspension to satisfy the E36 geometry is far greater than a larger rotor/cal setup.

Cliffsnotes; I'm in college and cannot afford all that is necessary to do 5-lug.

i don't know if this will help you, but the corrado did have 11" rotors that were 4x100 and i don't know what the bolt spacing is for the bmw but i used that set up on my mk-II jetta with audi turbo quattro calipers (85ish vintage) and porterfield street pads. that gives you a staggered 2-piston floating caliper (big) that bolted on to everything no mods nec. and it worked great!

I'm using corrado rotors and e34 540i calipers and I just finished mocking it all up on a spare strut I have.

I think e28 calipers might be a better idea, but I got the e34 calipers for free.

When I get back to work on the 2nd of jan. I will make the final brackets and take some pics. This setup wont fit under my winter B-caps so I'm not really in too much of a hurry to get it finished.

Besides the brackets it should be an easy swap. The centerbore of the VW rotor needs to be opened up ~.040" IIRC to clear the E30 hub. The e34 carrier needs to be clearanced and the backing plates need to be trimmed also. I could make a batch of brackets if you guys want.

The e34 caliper w/carrier weighs 4.5lbs more than the e30 setup. Not as much as i expected.

Not everyone wants to give up their collection of 4 bolt wheels.
