Sir you are correct.Actually, the square cut seal around the piston allows the piston to retract after braking pressure is released. It is also responsible for continually adjusting the distance the piston/brake pads are to the rotors.

Yep, this man is correct. Caliper seals look like a simple square o ring but actually very specifically shaped.
I had a fascinating discussion about disc brake caliper seals with a Brembo engineer 2 years ago. He was telling me about a new low drag caliper and a couple times during our conversation i was answered with "I'm not allowed to say anymore about that"

I still think OP had a certain image of how brakes worked in his head which is not quite right.
