Who gives a shit about the mess it makes? Do it away from your car and there won't be a problem. It was easy to do, and only took about 3 hours total.
The rear subframe job is pretty much universally considered to be a pain in the ass.
Doing it "away from the car" is only possible if you first remove the subframe, to which the trailing arms and differential are attached. I have better ways to spend my time than wrestling with the 90-lb diff in my gravel driveway so that I can change a couple of bushings. Popping off the bushing cover and sliding in a few shims sounds "easy." What you did does not.
Well I guess to some of us a couple hours of a pain in the ass is worth it to do something right.
There's a joke there somewhere. . .
Anyhow, I think a better example of "doing something right" would be replacing the water pump while doing the t-belt because it's there and it saves you labor in the long run. If this bushing fix works, there's nothing any more "wrong" with it than there is with any other suspension mod. If the fix doesn't work or doesn't last long, BFD. I'm going to make my own for ~$2, and the install might take all of 30 minutes.
