    dropping front subframe.

I searched but everything was for the rear subframe. I'm replacing a bunch of stuff and the front subframe is one of them.

How do I put the engine on jack stands while I drop it? I know you can use a cherry picker but I don't have one. And I know using jack stands is an option but I can't find out the proper way. Anyone have any tips or anything? Thanks in advance!

If you have no cherry picker, use a few 4x4's across the top from fender to fender, secure the engine to the beams using tie-downs. Put some thing under the beams so as not to ruin your fenders.

Something like this here tool would do> http://www.harborfreight.com/1000-lb...bar-96524.html

I used a jackstand at the rear of the motor/front of the tranny and a jack at the oil pan with a plank of wood in between the surfaces. Worked like a charm.

An engine brace (or the ghetto equivalent suggested by rhE-30) is the best and safest way to support the engine for subframe work.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

          thanks guys!

if I go the 4x4 route, what kind of thing would I put to distribute the weight so as to not dent my fender; just multiple 4x4's no?

thanks again for the help, glad no one said I NEED a cherry picker.

I would try to avoid putting that weight on the fenders if possible. I'm thinking shorter lengths of 4x4 resting on the frame rails or shock towers. Just make damn sure its steady and that you dont bother it when its sleeping.

As long as the spacing between the 4x4s is exact so that they rest on the lip where it bolts to the FRAME and not the top the the fender, it will be fine. I've done this to change motor mounts.

Go to a Harbor Freight store and look at one of their engine braces. That will suggest ways to support the 4x4 on the fenders. While there, seriously consider just buying an engine brace.

Cliff's Note version... A commercial engine brace has adjustable feet that fit into the gap between the fender and the hood seal ridge. Those spots are strong enough to take the weight of the engine.

The brace from harbor freight is $69.99, it's worth it if you plan on working on cars in the future. You're gonna spend that on 4x4's if you don't have any lying around.

                          wow, milk crates...

If you want to go with the 4x4 method, just take the fenders off and rest it directly on the underlying structure.

...or fuck up your fenders, its your car.
