Frank I really hope you take the needed time to clean up and paint the parts that your working with such as sub-frame etc, if nothing more then the purpose of rust prevention. Your progress is looking awesome. Any good tips for people who plan to change there bushing's soon?? (like me ;) )

      Damn, ten hours?

It took two of my friends 1hr 40 minutes to pull the entire rear-subframe out, including the trailing arms. I was just watching and getting in the way most of the time.

      Thank god for no rust.

Looking at all that, I'm so happy I found a shop near my work that'll do it for 1-1.5 hours labour, $90. I'm skeptical they can do it in such a short time, but whatever, we'll see. :)

best part is putting the whole thing back in. I put IE adjusters and did all the bushings on mine and there wasn't enough room to put the TA's on after the subframe was in so the whole lot (subframe, diff, TA's, halfshafts) all had to go in as one. 3 jacks and we got there eventually. do it once do it right, i'm never pulling that subframe again.

Hey guys.. DONT WORRY ABOUT THE RUST. the only reason i didnt' take care of it is because some guy wanted to use the lift right after me, so i didnt have the luxury to spend a whole day sanding and painting, but I WILL re-disassemble (which wont be too hard bc i already did it once... everything is kinda loosened up) everything and paint. it will look 100% better when i'm done with the car. Probably sometime in may/june it should all be done. Then i could put my sway bar kit in too...

They were a bitch to get out and i was pounding on it with the chisel hammer for about 30 minutes to get it loose. I think that the aluminum sleeve and the steel stud make some kind of bond or something bc those fuckers were stuck on!. Thank god i never have to do it again!
The subframe bushings are $100 from bimmerworld.com and are powerflex

The trailing arm bushings weren't so hard. I have a pic of them too here..
The tool is just a 2 jaw puller that I luckily got to clip on the welds of hte trailing arms.. I got really lucky bc i couldnt' pound those out no matter how hard i tried...

Fielding, when we have another meet at scotts. i'll bring my 26 gal compressor and tools and we can do the bushings together (i love pickup trucks) Since i did them already, it shouldn't be too bad..especially on a 75000 mile car... think about it....... could be worth it...

Lets do it sometime in mid-may then, after fielding is done with school for the year.... Maybe we can do both cars concurrently.... I'd like to lift that rear end of the car up kinda high, bc we're gonna need alot of room down there to separate shit...

Mark, you're gonna have to show me how to use that blasted thing. looks kinda complicated at first glance...

Pretty sure my rear pass side TA bushing is going out - accelerating in first from a stop and I get a light "thump-thump-thump" for a few seconds. Can't imagine what else it could be - new wheels & tires that were balanced, bearing would be a grinding/humming...

May is pretty much shot for me guys. I'll be in ME for a bachelor party next weekend, weekend after I may be around, and then the following week (20-27) I'll be on vaca.

I'd LOVE to do everything - subframe bushings, TA bushings, bearings, ebrake, etc. Curious - are the subframes in a cabby the same as in a coupe? I have a spare subframe from another car - just curious.

You guys should come up the 13th or 14th - just let me know.

What do TA bushings do? Do they really need to be replaced if the subframes have been done?

If you remove your subrame to replace the sub frame bushings, take the extra step and replace the TA bushings.

They are the bushings that hold the TA to the subrame and support the spring/shock. They are constantly moving up and down when your suspension compresses. New bushings will reduce play' compared to the 15yr old bushings that are worn.

The car will be more crisp and precise in the handling dept.

You can also install a camber and toe adjustment kit from Tree house racing I believe. That will help eliminate the infamous rear camber in a lowered E30 and help increase tire life. Can also be adjusted for track use.
