New rotors and pads?

I'm about to do a brake job, and I'm just wondering what rotors and pads to use. My dad uses PFC Z-Rated pads on his M3 and I like them, but I'm not sure if Z-rated's fit in the E30 calipers. What rotors/pads do you guys use for DD/occasional spirited driving/track days?

Rotors are rotors. Bma wil sell you 4 new meyles for $110. Anything else is a waste of cash IMO.

Buy blank rotors and OEM-compound pads. Ceramics dust less because they work less, especially at cold-bite temperatures. Slotted and/or drilled rotors aren't of any help in road driving. Same goes for cryo-treated rotors, with a possible exception in rotor longevity. As far as rotor brands go, they're all about the same. I went with Centric at Tire Rack.

How much are oem pads? Buying them through BMW id imagine would cost a metric shitton, are there any other good vendors to buy them through?

Also can I maybe get some help on diagnosis of something? There is a horrendous rattling noise coming from the front (assuming brakes). It's worse when Its at low speeds, say in a parking lot, and when turning. It's like a bad set of floating rotors. I'm thinking that the mounting clips for the pads may be broken or they are extremely worn, causing them to rock, any ideas? I don't want to take it apart until I have new rotors and pads, just to save time. I might check to see if anything is visibly loose or broken tomorrow.

Edit: did a little reading on the Meyle rotors I think I'm gonna go with them, I think I'm gonna go with them. I found people using Akebono pads, any comments on these? Reviews says they are top of the line, and for $50 I can't complain.

Plain rotors and OE/OEM pads on the street. For track weekends swap out the pads to Hawk HP+ or better. If you don't mind noise and short pad life, PFC-08 pads all the time.

It's hard to diagnose that issue without being there, but it sounds like something is definitely loose. Akebono makes ceramics, right? My previous statement still stands. I bought Stoptech Street Performance pads my first time around due to the best reviews, and they sucked so bad on the street they warped a rotor.

Yea I know, I just wasn't sure if anyone had any ideas. Where would u buy the OEM brand compound, what vendor? I imagine buying them from BMW is like $50 more

I got my Ate pads from a guy near me, but you can get them from Guten Parts, Blunttech, Turner Motorsport, etc.

Here are the Ate part numbers:

Front: 34 11 1 162 481
Rear: 34 21 1 158 912

I'm not a big Hawk fan. My dad uses PFC-08s on the M3 and PFC-11s on the SE30, and I really like how they feel so I'll probably use them.

I know they don't make pads, but I imagine you can buy OE compound pads through them, they are probably ridiculously expensive
