looking to dump the stock ABS

Just a bit of background, swapping an Ls1 into my 88 325is, car is planned to be a full restore. Id like to get rid of the stock ABS and replace it with something different. In virginia, can i legally pass safety inspection with manual brakes?? given this is going to be a street driven car id like to get another abs setup but dont know where to begin... OR should i just stay with manual brakes as i mentioned before? advice is appreciated, please dont diss on the idea, just need more info as i move forward

We'll begin with the small town of General Tso's,
And move to the Orange chicken province.

Not dissing here, just curious what your complaints with the original system are.

i guess my mindset is that im doing a full resto-mod build so other than the shell, nothing in the car was going to be "original." i had issues with my old e30 and the abs so i figured, if im going to put as much hp as i plan to put in my swap, id like to be able to stop it. for me... all options are on the table, so long as it works, and it works well.

You could upgrade to the e36 system it's 4channel instead of 3 and has been done and documented before if your looking to switch to anything besides the stock e30 abs this is the route I would look at

My three biggest regrets with my E30 track/Lemons car are:
            1) Buying it
            2) Not keeping it street legal
            3) Getting rid of the ABS

E36 3-channel is an upgrade. 4-channel is not. Racers commonly backdate because the four channel is prone to freaking out under hard driving conditions.

All that said, you can go to manual brakes and keep the E30 ABS unit. It's a perfectly good system when you have new sensors and a decent wiring harness. Retrofitting a newer system is not going to gain you much, short of the mk60 standalone system (which might cost as much as your LS swap).

I was going to say, the E36 ABS system isn't really that good. You'd want to start with the E46 MK60 system at minimum, or just leave it stock.
