    What would I know?
Did I ever claim to be God? No.

Again, I'm happy knowing that I'm not driving around on a 20 year old bearing cartridge full of 20 year old worn out bearings with a glob of new grease stuffed in. I wasn't too cheap to spend the money on the proper parts to repair my car. If you're too cheap to spend the money on the proper parts for the car, go buy a Honda. Don't come on here asking for advice on how to fix your car, getting the CORRECT answer right off the bat, and then spend the next 2 days arguing with people about how you don't need to do it that way.

If you could spot right bearings(which you can't) the bearing swap would be ok, as it is for other cars with straight stub axle and closed ball bearings.

Conclusion: you must use the complete new hub assembly because the separate bearings are not available.

See? After all that bullshit going on and on about how your way was going to work, it's not after all. Looks like you're going to have to do it the way I told you after all. The RIGHT way.

Rocla, I was not even talking to you in the first place, much less was I arguing with you. And you'll find that nowhere in any of my replies, did I ONCE say that this method coulnd't be done with other cars. I said it coulnd't be done with E30's. If it WERE possible, you would be able to buy the bearing cartridge separately from the hub, and you can't. Hence, the first reply I made in this thread was right from the start, that you have to replace the entire unit. So all of this back-and-forth arguing that you guys kept going and kept going was completely pointles, because I gave 2002maniac the right answer right off the bat 2 days ago.

I think there was a little confusion in opinion here. Let me try to simplify.

I believe Rocla was talking about replacing the whole bearing assembly, including the ball bearings inside the bearing along with the inner and outer race. This is perfectly fine, except that AFAIK, they are not available. He did not mean change out the individual ball bearings. This would be dangerous (as Josh posted) as if the ball bearings are worn, the races are more then likely also worn and will kill the new bearings rather quick.

As far as what 2002maniac meant, I have no idea. In some posts it seems he wanted to change only the ball bearings and in others it seemed he wanted to change the whole assembly. Maybe he can clarify.

To recap, buy new hub/bearing assemblies as JUST the bearing (NOT the individual ball bearings) are not available. End of story.

Yes, I was looking for a source for the entire bearing assembly without the hub.

I still dont see why people got their panties in a bunch about this. Josh did not say they were unavailable, he said it was impossible and unsafe!

          Whatever...

Find in this entire ridiculous thread where I said it was impossible. You won't, because I didn't. I said that it was IMPROPER and UNSAFE. Don't start backpedaling and putting words in my mouth just because after all of your sermonizing you still discovered that I was right.

Wow, this thread is brutal. I think 2002 maniac is trying to avoid replacing the whole hub because he has studs in his, that are a PITA to remove. Either way, replacing the bearing assembly without the hub poses no problem or safety concern, if the bearings where available seperately.

              Keep it slideways!!

You keep saying that, but you can't support it with facts.
