      what about a metallic spinning noise? could it be a wheel bearing or could it be the metal backing shield rubbing against the rotor or something?

        You called it, it was the left rear bearing. Bought a couple of bearings from BMA for about $30. each, took it to my mechanic and he replaced the left bearing. $210. bucks later...smooth as silk with no whoomp, whoomp or vibration. Thanks for everybody's posts
