I have a 91(92) 318i convertible. Previous owner installed the BC racing coilovers. The rear spring rate appears to be 160lb based on the part number and behavior. I have raised the adjuster all the way up(or down) and the car will settle right back down on the tire. Rate seems preposterously low.
Question 1 - what is the recommended spring rate for a convertible? Would like it lowered but not the tire sitting on the lip (this is a street car)
Question 2 - why is it so hard to find manufacturers spring rates for these cars instead of just marketing style naming?
Question 3 - does anyone sell rear springs only for the BC setup? Ideally, I would call a vendor and get a BC replacement spring with a different spring rate and swap it out, but BC doesn't list part numbers or spring rates. Again, seems absurd.
Not uncommon in even the muscle car world to just go to the catalog and get springs by length, diameter, and rate. Am I missing something?
Thanks for any and all help. Pretty new to the e30 world.
Edit - I'm checking the spring part numbers against swift spring website.... 62-160 is the part number for the front spring. but that appears to be installed on the rear of the car. so, likely the spring is too short. But it should be a 450lb spring.
According to the same site, both springs for the kit are 8k / 450lb springs. does that sound right? or should I get a higher rate for the back?
