a ? for those who have cut theirs spring.

i have an 85 e30 with h&r race springs and no spring pads. the front is a little high but i;m ok with it. i just purchased a 90 e30 and a new set of h&r race springs. i know the front is going to look like it sits even higher because of the low rear arches. i want to cut my springs before i install them. how much should i cut off the bottom coil? half? a hole coil? a little more then half? if you have done this with h&r springs a pic would be nice to if possible. thanks

    Here is what you want.

Don't do it. Either make drop hats, or buy GC camber plates.

Don't cut it. You'll be pissed when it's not what you want and you can't do anything about it.

great so many people say different things. i knew i would run into this problem. i can't find drop hats and everyone says they suck. a hole coil being cut off is way to low. gc camber plates are way to pricey for a 1/4".

well do what you want really. Practically, you don't want to because it would then be harder to sell the springs if you wanted something different. If you want the height, do a standard coilover. You can buy cheap coilovers off ebay and such.

Not the way I would do it, but and example.

Less than one coil will not be much of a drop at all, and GC's plates are like 23mm shorter than stock so the drop is almost an inch. I have cut aftermarket springs before and I definitely regretted it shortly thereafter. The rears felt fine, but the fronts were awful. Would not recommend it.

A coil cut with stock springs, with billy sports.... never had problems and it handles pretty good, i think. I truly believe that if you're just daily driving it and just don't wanna deal with harsh rides, you really can't go wrong with my setup. Flame suit on...

                  It's actually more like 12mm.
