stock shocks arent valved to handle the lowering. they will blow and your ride will go to shit.

can someone explain to me the problem with running stock shocks with lowered springs like h and r races or ie stage 3's? do you absolutely have to buy nice shocks?

New Bilstein Sport front strut inserts.
    New Bilstein Sport rear shocks.
    Vogtland Springs.
    Cabrio E30 front 21mm swaybar.
    E30 M3 rear 19mm swaybar.
New front Control arms and Powerflex offset control arm bushings.
Tires are some 185/60/14 the PO put on, so they are undersized...

the spring rates are different, but considering their age that wont make much of a difference. the best would be to find a used set of e30m3 springs. keep in mind if the shocks are old(er) it might be in your best interest to invest in some. bilstein HDs are a good reliable piece. also consider strut/shock mounts, control arms, control arm bushings, tie rods. if none of this has been done and youre past 100k its about that time.

good job taking him to driving courses, i wish more parents got involved like that around my area.

So no one uses stock BMW springs from one application to another? I've been through this thread & the one with spring rates.
Our faithful '85 325e has been driven by my wife, so has not had any performance mods - perfect the way it is, she says. It is now in my & 16 y/o son's hands! There is a hand's width between the top of the tires & bottom of wheel wells, so we'd like to bring it down a bit.

Thanks in advance. Son & I have a chance to bond over this project! He will be spending some time behind the wheel with our NCC's highway safety school and Street Survivor programs.

yeah that does look to be true in this thread but look at the difference between clay and justins front ends.
