    Front bump stops...

Ok, so I actually bought brand new stock bump stops. After putting them on, they seem WAY too long, like I'm going to be riding on them sometimes.

One of them I already cut in half, then I realized that it's loose around the shock if I do that.

Sooo - am I suppose to shorten them down at all? or, will the stock ones work ok?

I don't want to be autocrossing, and being going around a corner and have my bump stop acting as a shock absorber aand not the shock. :?

    Quick reply appreciated! :D

I'd like to know this as well. Is there anything to stop me from just taking my old shocks out and putting the new ones in with the stock bump stops?

I think you're supposed to trim them, but the manual that comes with konis is a joke.

My Konis bottom out excessively with the car slammed, even with stiff springs. Trim those bitches.

The bumpstops actually help with the dampening. It will make the ride stiffer. My friend spent a lot of time looking this stuff up when he bought his cup kit for his jetta. Look on the H+R website, they have detailed information on how the bumpstops work. They are not just to aid bottoming out. If you trim them you dont need to take too much off.

Should I just leave the stock ones in the car when I put the Konis in?

If they look pretty squished or flattend I would say get new ones. If not trim a little of the end off and put them in.

Does your car have the factory bilstiens?

I'm not sure, I haven't taken them out yet. But of what I can see, they are bright yellow, and look to be somewhat new. I could be totally worng though. Jordan did tell me that one of my rears was leaking, and I think it might actually be blown, as I can feel what APPEARS to be the shock bottoming out over big bumps.

So then I think what I'll do is just order new stock bump stops, and if I don't end up needing them, I'll just return them. I won't have the downtime to be able to order them after I get the stock suspension out, so it would be better to have them already. Also, are there bump stops in the rear, or do the rear Konis just drop right in?

The rears shouldnt be a problem. You got the bump rubber with them right? Some dont even say you need that.

The only thing im thinking about the front (if they are stock bils) you might not have bumpstops at all up there. My car had original bils and no bumpstops. I was trying to think why I didnt put them in. The tubes on the bilstiens are too large to run a factory bumpstop.

They will fit on the konis though, so you may want to just get them.

Well, it's all together now, and I left the stock bump stops in there.

I drove around tonight. And even on full soft, it makes the car a beast. I'm lovin it. Although the treehouse racing popping noises really are annoying... :?

I put in a 3.73 rear end too, and my god, this car just wants to oversteer like none other! It's the best thing ever!! :D

So...will I need to remove my strut assemblies and remove part of my bump stop then? :|

Something just dawned on me...the front of my car wasn't as low as I expected....hmm....Could this be because I'm riding on my bump stops? :?

You might have to take them out if you have dust shelds. If you don't I think you could jack it up and take a razor blade to them.

In the bottom of this page it shows some information about bumpstops.

                      Hope this helps some.

I did put the dust sheilds in, but I really didn't need the damn things.

I think I'll probably take them out and use a cut bump stop. I think I'm riding on mine.

Sort of on topic, but I've got bilstein sports and eibach prokits ready to go in. Should I put bump stops in, and should I trim them? Also, are the dust shields necessary? Can I just buy them stock?

                            Dust sheilds really are unneeded.

The strut is in the strut assembly! lol

I would trim the bump stop. I haven't looked, but I will be this morning. I expected the IE Stg 3 springs to bring my front end tires level with my fender, and their about 3/4-1 inch apart. So, I'm thinkin I'm riding on my bump stops, since I didn't trim them.
