HELP: Removing GC

Fellas.....

I'm getting ready to put on the IE Stage 3 springs this weekend. Actually, I was going to swap out the parts on the rear myself this evening and then do the front (along with new control arms and Treehouse CABs) at my friend's place tomorrow since he has compressor and all the nifty tools along with it.

So I have the rear of the car on jackstands, wheels off and I removed the springs. My problem was trying to get the threaded sleave to come off.....and after trying to jar it with a mallet (using a block of wood against the GC stuff of course), this thing will not budge. I mean the fucker is really on there. I'm affraid to pry anything against it cause I know that's just asking for a major cussing session.

What can you guys suggest short of breaking out a grinder and hacking the thing off. Any helpful advice is appreciated. Project commences in the morning.

penetrating oil and heat? propane torches are like $10. let the oil evaporate before you heat it up ;)

Gear puller worked great swapping the suspension from Stu's car to mine.

Well I got the problem solved. I stopped by a friend's Porsche/BMW shop and he used an angled prybar which give him plently of leverage while having little room to work with. In about 4 minutes he got everything removed. IE Stage 3 springs have been installed and I'm a much happier camper now.

IE Stage 3s have a bit of progressive coiling in their design. The GCs are linear from top to bottom. The little bit of progressive 'cushion' the IEs provide makes my car livable for daily driving (my E30 is my only car) while still delivering very good handling characteristics. If my E30 were primarily a track car, I probably would have kept the GCs on it. With adjustable Koni SA shocks, this would make for a truly great track package.

Of course, there is no one ideal suspension set up. Everyone has their own idea of what 'perfect' is. I personally found linear rate springs to be too aggressive for street use, progressives are the way to go here (again, just my opinion). Try driving a car with each set up and you will see what I mean.
