what i just did was take the hose that goes from the tank to the pump and ran it from the tank to the rack so now there are 2 hoses going from the tank to the rack
BTW should the steering colum that goes from inside the firewall to the u-jonts be able to move around a little? it also makes kind of poping noise when i move it round

I've done it both ways and I'm here to tell you that running a power rack with "no power" isn't remotely close to how good real manual steering feels in these cars.
First, the little guibo in the connector between the rack and the column is very soft in the power rack. It's very firm in the manual because it has to withstand a lot more torque. This offers a more direct connection and better feel. As a matter of fact, I'd have to say that my e30 with the euro manual rack that I got from my local dealer feels tighter and much better "on center" than the steering in my wife's Z3. Surprising since the e30 manual rack is a 21.45:1 ratio and the Z3 is 16.9:1!
Second, you have such a heightened sense of exactly where the limits of the front tires are that you can really drive it at the edge without any nasty surprises.
Steering effort is not really a big deal unless you are completely stopped and are trying to turn the wheel.
It requires no maintenance and will never leak anything on my driveway. :D

I did a z3 conversion and recommend it greatly. I'm not running anything through it, I just have both banjo fittings installed on the rack, with a tube running from one fitting to the other. Pretty simple, works well.

is there any way to like make the steering wheel harder to turn but keep power steering, maybe with like a smaller pulley or less fluid flow or something? anyone know?Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

and my current rack for some reason leaks even though it was rebuilt like 10000 miles ago. I also has a lot of slop.
I would probably like to do a no PS e36 or z3 conversion, but maybe the manual rack could work
