E36 rack swap nightmare, PLEASE HELP!!

OK guys, so last month i bought an m50 swapped e30. The rack was shot and I had a spare e36 rack.
I removed the old one, read numerous threads on the swap, made my own spacers and hardware. I modified the nuckle etc etc.
So yesterday I got time to install the e36 rack, i modified the lines so they dont hit the pan etc etc.
I bolt the rack on and this is what i find.!
The nuckle is way too long and there's no way it could fit the neck of the rack where it connects "not sure that you call it".
So I decide to remove the spacers from the nuckle and it still wayyy too long..
    so now what???
I'm not a mechanic but I'm pretty handy, I have a tracked prepared e36 M3 and I do all my work but this doesn't make any sense.
Here are some pics so you guys can get a better idea.
    Help!!
Suggestions, comments or anything would be appreciated, i HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I AM DOING WRONG!!!
    Thanks!

Underneath the dash, find the steering column. See if you can find a big nut on it. If you do, loosen it and push the column in towards the steering wheel. This should give you an inch or two.

I did this on my airbag E30. I'm not entirely sure if pre-airbag E30s have this nut or not, hence the "see if you can find...". ;)

all you have to do is put a spacer in between that 2 knuckle so it shortens.

Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Bernzpeed is correct. I think my spacers were 14 mm or so.

I don't think you understand the orientation of the linkage.

Maybe this pic of where to put the spacers will help you out:

And ideally you should space up the actual rack on its mounting points as well.

you are correct, I was confused how to mount the linkage but I now get it after looking at some pictures and clarification...oh well, you live and you learn.
I am aware of the spacers on top of the rack...
                    thank you!

Neither do you , Teaguer. Bernzpeed is still correct, the spacers go between the two halves but after they have passed each other.

I do know where they go. Thats why i included the 2nd pic that shows the linkage assembled.

I also removed that pic of the rack spacer from my post because I noticed it says put the spacer above the rack which is incorrect.

                        Fucking e30tech FTL!!!!
