As title says, I have excessive NVH with my GC coils, like a clunking. And I know its directly strut related, I have no play or bad bushings anywhere in the front suspension. I have Cosmo camber plates. I feel like the noise is the threaded piece of the coilover hitting the D-ring and then the bilstein lock collar, are these supposed to just be "floating" as my threaded piece is? It happens going over bumps obviously.

Kidding. A lot of people do that.
Take the sleeve off, wrap the strut housing with electrical tape where the sleeve should be, then press the sleeve back on and over the tape. The fit will be snug and no more moving parts.

Needle brearings. Should cost about $20 for the pair.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

A lot of people do this with the basic E39 m5 coilover offerings from BC and others. Upgrade the bearing.Originally posted by TSI♫ Rust flecks are falling on my head...♫OEM+
