It sounds like you're riding on your bump stops. H&R races are generally a 'better' ride than Sports, actually... because the Bilsteins' valving matches the H&R race spring more. So while they are numerically stiffer they won't feel rougher. So yeah, cut your bump stops!

Yes i do smart ass. I'm just trying to help you and you are the one asking the questions. All of your questions are already answered here on r3v if you would search for more than the 3.8 seconds your ADD addled brain can stand.

If you read my post you will find an answer to some of your questions.

H&R race are not crazy spring rates, they don't ride that harsh but they are way stiffer than stock.

You are sitting on your bumpstops at your static ride height. Your bumpstops are longer than your current available travel so when you hit a bump your spring rate goes from firm to infinity almost immediately and no shock can keep up with that. It will be bouncy and harsh.

I have bumpstops that are about 5/8ths of an inch tall and it rides WAY better than sitting on the stops but it still doesn't have much travel so when i hit a good sized bump it bottoms and thats pretty harsh...

I think the E30 chassis needs at least another inch of up travel (shorter strut housings) to ride well on races. Lees than 2 inches of travel is not enough.

Yes, you should cut your bumpstops, but i assumed that was pretty obvious. Don't make search me for pics on how to do it.

Way stiffer that stock is something of an understatement with respect to street cars. Stock IS springs are 118/265 and H&R Race are 315/570. There are stiffer OE type springs (Turner J sport) and of course coil over can be set up with just about any spring rates. Ride quality is a subjective judgement and will depend on the roads driven. But in my opinion H&R Race springs are way too stiff for the street (and way too low).
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

With an m20 car with hr race/billy sports/ half length bumpstops/no spring pads/camber plates, I bottom out often with more than myself in the car.

My personal opinion is that the HR Race springs that were designed for an m3, are too soft for the length they sit at for m20 cars. For less money you can go with a set of GE coils, and even if you dont shorten your housings, you at least have something geared more toward the m20.

            I track a car w/ HR race.....e30

they are streetable......but of course as stated that is subjective.

I drive hrs to track events on them.....that being said, they suck on bad roads....clearance is an issue.....

bottoming out is rare...but it does happen......I run Koni SA valved by GC...

he meant GC coils...not GE I would guess..
I love sitting down and just driving!

Good idea, take some shots so Alex can learn how shocks work.
