Power Steering Fluid? BMW only?

Just wondering if I can use off-the-shelf power steering fluid or if I have to buy the BMW stuff. Many thanks.

On E30's, it's just ATF. Nothing fancy.

No. It's standard cheapo ATF. Dex3.

According to my collection of owners manuals Dex II is ok

Any of the Dex ATF will work. I use Dex III.
