I'm not sure exactly what is different; I don't know what size the ix beariings are but the mounts for the strut tower is definitely not the same. I was thinking of getting a set of GC plates and having a machine shop modify them to fit into an ix tower. GC offers a couple different bearing sizes (16mm and 14mm) but I don't know if the ix strut will fit into that.

the other option is modifying a stock ix strut bearing for more camber (or the "crash mounts", which are over $300 each and only give 1/2 of a degree). whenever my parts car gets here I'll be able to figure out exactly what I need to do.

well if i get the KW i'll have a spare set of strut assemblies, tunershop told me its cheaper for them to source them then for me to ship mine.

that's correct, there were only ~3500 total. They never sold more than 1,000 a year, not many people wanted one when you could get an M3 for the same price..

                    ix suspension stuff again

So scott really didn't want to see my GC but i sort of want to go w/ it. He had good reasons for not doing so, but i know i am not happy w/ my h and r's and the KW is 1200ish for Variant 1 (no rebound control), and variant 2 is 1500+200 for strut assemblies. I can do GC for under 1000 or right around there at the most. the custom KW would be cool but i don't see how i can justify it when i can get custom valved koni's and GC from Scott. Not to mention i want to run those wheels :). The other problem w/ the GC is the offset of wheel you need to run to clear the spring perch on the strut assembly. He said a 5 (may have been six) inch spring sitting on the stock perch is about the same height. I think there is enough room to get as low as i want without getting in the way of the tire. Your thoughts.

so why not cut the perch? I know he said it's not a great idea, but ix struts aren't impossibly rare (for the cost of new ones you could almost buy a whole parts car). and I find it unlikely that you'd want to go back to H&R sports. Honestly I hope you do get GC to work because I was thinking of going down the same path. :)

any idea how much extra clearance i need (wheel) to fit the perches and spring? I will make a new thread.

fyi i am getting jlines for wheels, i keep looking for stuff that would work w/ the brakes and nothing will work without spacers (well almost nothing i like) so i am figured what the hell. I like bbs rx but by the time you buy spacers the jlines are a better option - forged+ custom and only like 200 more dollars.

also KW no longer does ix coilovers the demand was too low.

with ground controls you only need to cut the perch if you want to go low. As i understand it you aren't too concerned with being super low. The main advantage of the ground controls is the wide choice of spring rates and the ease/cost of chagning the rates/lengths if you aren't happy with is. as well as dampaning adjustability with the koni's for much cheaper than the other options

i am going to have to cut the perch but i won't mount it super low in order to achieve the ride height i want. Probably cut the perches and run it most of the way up, shoudn't effect the tires or wheels :). The 5 and 6 inch springs work out in an odd fashion on the ix.
