    Ground Control Coilover Sleeves + Koni

    Anyone know anything about these?

    I was gonna go with Bilstein Sport + H&R Race, which would cost like $800, but for a bit more, I could have adjustability.....????

      unless you get the Bilstein Sports revalved, they dont last with the HR race. and they bounce like a mofo. (under dampened)

      i just drove a car with that GC setup yesterday and i was very pleased. it's not very stiff and very daily driveable.

      my favorite is HR race with koni yellows and thats what i will be putting on my M3. but most people here agree that GCs coilovers are nearly the best you can get for an E30.

          Why search when I had two helpful people answer my question?

          Thanks to those that replied.

          So many people run H&R race with the Bilstein sports and that's what I've always been eyeing.

          I've never tried Koni, but I know they're a reputable brand. I just wasn't sure about a "sleeve" coilover setup opposed to a full body coilover such as the $1500 ground controls

              So if i got this GC kit with the Koni's , I have to do the same thing still by cutting the spring perches?

                yes and no. you could technically set the sleeve on top of the stock perch, but you'll limit your height adjustment.

                  GC will be a better setup than the H&R Race+Billies. And GC is very highly regarded and considered one of the best coilover setups among all the common ones. That said...

                  That might be a little dramatic. Not that a spec class is meant to give people the best ride, or the fastest lap, but SpecE30 uses that setup to great effect. My setup doesn't "bounce like a mofo" nor does it bounce like any object that is commonly thought of as a bouncing object. My car bounces like an anvil.

                  However, if money isn't an issue, go GC hands down. It'll be better matched and provide adjustability. I'm sitting on H&R Race and billies right now and I love it. Next year if money allows I'll be moving on to GCs.

                    I wasn't looking at GCs before because I thought they were like $1500-$1800 for the full body coilovers, but if it's $1000, I can swing that if it's a better setup. It's $800 for Bilstein + H&R Race so a little more and I can adjust... I'll go with that.

                      I'm installing the $1500 street kit from GC now, it was easier to get the camber plates, RSM's, and bump stops from them than pay the same price elsewhere and still have to pay shipping. Their kit comes with great documentation, setup has been very straightforward so far.

                      If you're not going to section the housings you'll need to at least remove the stock spring perch. If you leave it you won't be able to get at the adjuster easily. I got my housings done for free but it shouldn't be more than $75-100.

                      You should be prepared to replace various bolts and bushings as part of the process as well. No use having fancy springs and shocks if all the rubber bits are worn. I had to replace brake line as well, so depending on the condition of your car the cost can creep up pretty quick.

                          wheel bearings are probably a good thing to do at the same time too

                            Yeah, I ran out of budget before I got there though. Mine are OK at the moment anyways. It would be the time to do them for sure though since everything is already out of the car.

                            The suspension is really easy to work on once you get it out of the car.

                              yeah when i do my ground control set up i think I'm going to do the wheel bearings, they are good right now but its like i don't want to half to take the thing out twice
