well I absolutely did not do that.
would it be advisable to try out koni adj. instead?

I find it hard to believe that a bilstein sport would bottom out, especially at the ride height i'm at now...it doesn't seem feasable, it's not extreme or anything whatsoever.
but there doesn't seem to be any other logical explanation

the rear coilovers are much lower, and it's super smooth.

Look at it this way, Billy HD's are stock length so the housing doesn;t need to be shortened. when the suspension is loaded your sitting mid stroke on the shock. with billy sports its a shortened shock, so to make it ride in mid stroke you have to shorten the housing. Hopefully that made sense. So what I gather is happening, your running a billy sport, but inside a stock housing so you have to space up the shock so it locks in correctly. Problem with this is you are compressing the shock and when suspension is loaded your are riding at the very low end of total compression.

Hellabad, feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

What you have will work, but you need to shorten the housing to get the shock to ride at mid stroke. Billy HD's and Koni are stock length so you don't have to shorten the housing.

Here are two links that explain what I am talking about a little better. The first is with Koni's. These are Kingstons. no need for shortening the housing.

This is a thread on how and why you shorten the housing when using billy sports or billy ix shocks.

          holy hell NICE fab work!

thanks for all your insight and help, I think I've got my answer...and a top plate is not my issue.

I'll likely be replacing the billstein sports with koni adjustables.

Shoulda bought Bc's. The limited short shock selection is why I will never go with ground control.

am I on the right path in thinking the proper koni SA strut to order would be 8641-1210SPORT?
                  cheapest I found is @ $137/ea+free ship here--> http://ltbautosports.com/aa158a.html

seems to be some confusion on the proper model...1210 or 1021?

Though dimensionally similar, the 1210 is for the 325 where the 1021 is for the M3.

therefore the 1210 is the go to Koni strut for a 400#f GC/eibach 5" spring?

When I was running h&r race with billy sports/ camber plates, the wheel gap was less than an inch and I would occasionally bottom out over huge bumps. I have a hard time believing that op's car is bottoming out so much.

Also, bilstein sports are designed for stock housings. The only difference from the hd's is that the sports will go a little lower.

Since getting ge coils, i've been considering shortening my housings and running a koni ix insert or similar for more shock travel.

But honestly, I wish I wouldve just bought a full gc setup from the beginning.

the occasional bottoming out I can live with.

when I take an onramp onto a 400 series highway with vigor and I'm banging and bouncing to the point it doesn't feel safe, I simply drive home, put the car in the garage, weep and take the Mazda 3 instead.

                          yes it's that bad.

Sorry, but I'm almost 100% positive the sports are shorter then the HD's.

They will compress more, but they are made to fit the stock housing.
