Help with Bilsteins with shortened internals but stock length body

Here is my issue… I sent my Bilsteins to Stewart Development to have them shortened 1.5" and revalved and after a year long ordeal I finally got them back. Fast forward to today and I was planning to use them and when I do the measurements the outer body was not shortened but the internals were 1.5".

Here is a thread where I compared my measurements to a stock insert to verify dimensions: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=298952

I'm going nuts and probably overthinking this, but if I were to put these modified inserts into stock length strut housings for my moderately lowered car would there be any benefit?

    My thoughts are this:
    - since the modified insert extends 1.5" less than stock insert I can effectively lower the car 1.5" and have no loss in travel as the insert has not been compressed yet.
    - but if I lower the car 1.5" the camber plate is 1.5" closer to the top of the strut housing. Since the insert is internally shorter, the camber plate will contact the top of the strut housing before the insert bottoms out on the bumpstop. Is this logic correct?

So the only way to make these inserts work is to shorten the insert body (outside) 1.5" and shorten the OEM strut housing 1.5" to match. Is this logic correct?

TIA for any help clarifying this situation for me.

Your modified shock will have less droop or downward wheel travel.

Your up travel dimensions will not be affected, it will bottom out at exactly the same spot.

If you wers to run this with a full height spring the ride and handling could be a little unusual since the spring could end up with some preload at ride height.

May as well just shorten your housings if you bought shortened shocks. Its also nothing to cut down the "sleeve" of the billy insert to fit.
