well it's for an ix, and my housings are 2" shorter than stock. they're a koni race part #, which I don't remember off hand. There's probably something more appropriate for a RWD strut housing.

There is a race strut that's a good length for RWD cars as well.

If there is, unless it is the one that's 1/2" shorter than an iX strut, It is an 8611 koni race shock, and double adjustable. Definitely overkill in function and price for me.

OK, I'm getting iX Konis from Blunt. Gonna section out 2 inches of housing and use a 1" spacer. I've been pleased with the ride and handling of my full length Bilstein Sports so far so I'm sure the ix Konis will be just fine as well.

My issue with iX Konis on a RWD e30 with coilovers is that with the Bilsteins, iX rates are a good amount lower than RWD rates. I can only assume there's a legitimate reason for this, and all I can come up with is the caster difference between RWD and iX cars.

If that is the reasoning for the difference in rates between the Bilstein HD ix/rwd struts, I can only assume Koni is similar.

If Koni is similar, then we're taking an even weaker strut and throwing higher spring rates at it.

I'm seriously considering the 8610-1437 Race struts, which are .5" shorter than iX struts, but should be valved more appropriately.

I sent an email to mark @ GC about buying a set of their konis, and I figured since I have a full GC setup on one car, and their camber plates/shock mounts on another, it wouldn't be a big deal for them to sell a set of shocks, but I never got a response. Considering the promptness of his previous replies to other stuff, it really feels like a "No."

Then again, after reading that link burried above, JGood apparently managed to find koni rates, so iX Konis may be the way to go. I somehow never saw that until now.

ix konis are a sport shock - the bilsteins for an ix are HD's. I don't see how you can compare them.

I ran ix konis with 600# springs for years. the issue I had was they were too damn long for a lowered ix. you can't say an ix bilstein HD isn't comparable to a RWD bilstein sport, and then say a Koni must follow the same logic.. it's apples and tomato's.

In your opinion, how would you think ix koni's would fair against front 400# - 500# springs?
Think it can control that rate?

Here's hoping. I'll have mine done in the next month or so. Kinda nervous to chop the housings myself, I'll have to either pick up a pipe cutter or get a machine shop to section and reweld them for me.

                        1198sport

Was recommended to me after talking with Mark at GC after I was unable to get their 1198spgc shocks.

But would that be just the same as a Corrado Koni Sport? I thought the whole problem was that they fit great but the valving was not compatible with the heavier rate springs.

That's what they are. When I talked to Mark at GC about their valved 1198 and when I wasn't able to purchase he suggested these. He was also aware that I'm running 550/750 rates.

Interesting. Thanks for the info! I'm thinking that it would be a toss up between those and the iX Koni sports, I've got the iX inserts coming to me from Blunt this month.

yeah. I found them on konimarket for $140 each. I love ordering from that place, I ordered rear shocks for the Z coupe last Thursday, at more door Monday.
