Originally posted by mikeedleryes, i am speaking from experience. do some research and check the FK site!!! I have had FK on a golf III, and on an E30 both were garbage-- on the german twisties, and sagged.
TUV or not, they can still be poor quality- heck, any spring will sag after a while.
and, if you look at the FK website, thier better setups, are made with KONI shocks- or were at least.
IN GERMANY__ FK IS JUNK AND CHEAP!!!! go buy some APC parts too.
KW and koni are the top for E30 IN GERMANY
BILSTEIN is right up there too, but just to damn expensive.Comment

I think I am going 60/40. I am thinking also about putting that with some bilistein HD's. Will the HD's make the car a tad bit lower and would the HD's and 60/40 sit right with each other?Comment

I think the confusdion you are all having with the colors of the springs are--
in germany, noone (streetwise) goes by spring rates- TUV decides what they want on your car and lets the german manufacturers know.
In the earlier days-- it was like this with almost all the lowering springs i ever came acroos:
red= stiffest
yellow= middle
blue=softest/comfy ride
now I am not saying this is completely true- but that was the "rule" of thumb here in germany in the E30 days.Comment

im picking up some 60mm lowering springs and need to get some new struts, what would you guys recommend, i like a stiff ride very much, what would be the best bang for the buck

I will be going with KW 60/60 on my 85' eta, would you guys say that i should go with the shocks from KW for these springs or get some billie sports?Comment

I have FK 60/40. I've been running them about a year with no problems, no sag. Pretty stiff with a rough ride. The materials and manufacturing process for FK is the same as H&R. I've heard of few people complain about their quality. I certainly like mine and would recommend them. I really like the 60/40 drop. It's perfect for our cars and not particularly easy to find. BTW, I run them with Bilstein sports. I had heard the springs were great quality and the shocks were questionalbe.Comment

I have bilstein sports on my car with some intrax springs. I think it sits about 1.6 inches lower in the front. I thought Bilstein HD's were made for more of a stock setup not for lowering. I love how my car handles and the Bilsteins are some tough ass stuff! (jumped a curb and the shocks are fine!) Am I wrong?
I also want my car a bit lower in the front...could I cut the front shocks down? or is that a bad idea?Comment

are there any BMW specific tools needed to do the swap in my garage?
but the fronts will require:
- coil spring compressors (at least 1 pair)
- the bmw special tool that holds the top of hte strut mount still so you can tighten down the nut
- ball joint removal tool (if you want to do the switch up without having to remove the control arm as well.)Comment
