Yeah no second ring that acts as a lock ring is just going to continue to creep downward.

Is the bottom collar supposed to be sitting on that metal sleeve?

        PROBLEM

So that extra nut is too small to fit on the threads with the bottom nut. (pictured below)

here's a picture of the strut, if that helps.

How the hell do I put this together???

You are supposed to have a ring for the perch and a second ring below it to lock the collar in place.

Ignore the bottom ring in my photo as these coilovers are base height adjustable too (which yours aren't), but if you look at the top of the photo you'll see 2 rings under the spring. That's how all coilovers like this should be, 2 rings stacked to set the spring height and stop the collar from moving during use.

If yours are D2's they are really early because the new ones are welded the same as these BC's, you chop off the strut tubes and weld them at the bottom. Yours appear to actually be built inside the strut tubes and slide in like an insert.

If the second ring you found in the trunk won't fit, you really need to contact the manufacturer and order a second ring like the one you already have and stack them together. Failing that, find out the diameter and you can probably find them on ebay. The locking rings get pretty chewed up from making adjustments, so they should be easy enough to find.
Just a little project im working on
