The "stiffening up" you describe is NOT supposed to happen. That is the result of too much rebound damping and is actually pretty dangerous in a bumpy corner. It's also called packing, the suspension does not rebound fast enough to have sufficient travel for the next bump so it ratchets down until it is effectively solid and unable to absorb bumps at all.
I have H&R race with koni SA shocks that i have adjusted to match the springs , it does not "stiffen up" as you describe. -
go to the back of your car. push the rear down and let it rebound. After 3 to 5 pushes the rear will stiffen up and you won't be able to push the rear down anymore. Mine on the other hand does not stiffen up even with band new koni yellows.Leave a comment:

Not sure what stiffen right up means. Maybe try explaining your problem another way.
If you gently sit on your trunk and the car moves down further than you like, you need stiffer springs.Leave a comment:

I have no clue about what the spring rates are as they came on the car. yes the bump stops removed from the dampers.
why then on every other car I can press on the rear and it will stiffen right up? front of the car feels fine.Leave a comment:

I'm going to assume you are removing the bumpstops when you adjust and are actually turning the adjusters.
All you are doing with the adjustment is changing the rebound of the shock, it won't feel firmer when you push down because the compression damping is not adjustable.Leave a comment:

Did you get custom GC rates? If you replaced the shocks with brand new ones, then the only thing left on your list is the springs.Leave a comment:

after looking more at it I'm starting to think that maybe my tires have soft side walls. I am assuming this will play a factor?Leave a comment:

help. bouncy car
hi all.
so I have ground Control on my 91 and an experiencing a really bouncy ride.
essentially it feels as if the rear shocks aren't doing their job. Typical push up and down on the rear and it doesn't get stiff.
because of this I replaced the koni yellows with new ones and have them now set to three half turns. mine seem to only go to 4 half turns. I had them set to 2 half turns before and still feels the same. Push on the rear and it doesn't get stiff.
Is this a sign the springs are toast?
I don't think I have the rear very low but maybe it is.
Any insight would be great.
