E30 coilovers

Mike, did you get these on the car? I talked to GC and was thinking of buying same kit, would love to see how the car looks with them on.

I have Ground Control coilovers, I stressed to them I didn't want to mess with cutting any strut housing etc. They have a street kit online just for that. I have yet to install them and have no opinion yet, since I'm waiting till wednesday for their camber plates to arrive, but there is that option for you. I was also looking everywhere for options.

I'm not as well versed in suspension as these other guys yet, but I had a Bilstein sport/H&R race combo, and I hated not having any adjustability. From what I understand, cutting your housings allows for more low, and shock travel? I'm not sure. But being from New York, an Area with tons and tons of potholes, I want to have a nice height but also be able to adjust. Which I'm assuming you do too.

All in all, sorry for the rant. Speak to Ground Control. They're a 1000$ so they're not for the low budget, but if you do it do it right I suppose. Once I put mine on this week, I'll report back if I'm happy or not. Ground Control promised a maximum of 2 inches lowering with this kit, which in my case might be borderline too much.

P.S. Also, the H&R Race combo give the car a Reverse rake. I tried correcting it with e90 top hats etc, and never was happy with the fact that the front sat so much higher than the rear. Just for thought.

I didn't feel like chopping my e30 m3 front struts so only removed spring perch,
then used blue JOM coilover adjusters instead of red Ground Control units.

They serve 2 functions, they hold shock in place and become the adjuster sleeve for your springs,
no welding required.

Then you can choose any spring rates and matching shocks for them, springs do come in various l;enght as well if not low enough

If you value handling you quickly learn that low is severely overrated.

It's not necessary to run shortened strut tubes to maintain suspension travel if you don't lower the car too much. If you value handling you quickly learn that low is severely overrated.

racelands give you the option of coilovers without modifying the strut at less than $400 is a good option but ride quality is not the best.. maybe changing the inserts to adjustable konis or so can help the rebound... cant put in Bilsteins since the shaft is too big.

racelands are complete trash. dont waste your money...

I have been told that Racelands are crap quality in addition to poor ride. If you don't want to deal with welding you can buy a set ready to install from CA Tuned.

I recently bought 1991 318is and I'm debating on what kind of coilovers to run don't wanna go thru having to cut struts that would be my last resort...any pics on what yall are running thanks in advance

P.s. I'm running stock wheels also till I decide on the coilovers

If you don't want to cut your struts, then do what Andy said. I ran H&R's on mine before going with coilovers and they were great.

You must realize that you need to cut your struts if you want to put good coilovers on your car.

Go with H&R Race. H&R Sport aren't worth the effort.

If you aren't willing to cut the strut tubes to maintain suspension travel, don't use coilovers.

If you only want coilovers for teh lows, then you have the wrong car.

H&R sport/race and bilstein's is a proven setup to close up the wheel gap while still maintaining a compliant, comfortable ride.
