So I had my car up on a lift getting my tech inspection done when my buddy doing the inspection pushed up on my front tires to inspect the bushings etc in that area. He heard noise of metal on metal that sounded loose and we both thought "wtf?". we dropped the car down a bit and looked closer to notice that my IE3 springs are i guess you would say loose in between the top and bottom holders. I cannot remember from installing them, but both sides are the same and the top nuts on the struts are tight. Is this normal? I know the metal on metal is cause I have no spring pads, but there was a lot of room down there. I just want to make sure this is normal.

Both my car's are like that untill they are back down onto the ground. It is just because the springs are so much shorter than stock.:: PNW Crew ::

Try putting in Turner's Jstocks lol. There is about a 2-3" gap at the top between the springs/spring hat before you set the car down.

How is this normal by any means? I've seen vehicles (e30's included) that if they hit a speedbump, pothole, etc can cause the spring to pop out of the hat really easily.
The shock should be matched properly to keep the spring under a LITTLE tension when unweighted.
