How my trunkliner became a shock mount

I had just gotten done installing my H&R Sport springs and Bilstein Sport shocks along with new e46 cabbie rear shock mounts. I'm driving along enjoying my new set-up (it really is great by the way) when I hit what I would consider a regular size bump and I hear a pop followed by some rattling noise coming from the left rear. I immediately slowed down and pulled over to check it out. This is what I found:

I limped it home since I was really close, took off the trunk liner and removed the shock.

I had attached the shock mount before putting on the dust cover and other rubber mount, once I realized this I tried to take off the shock cover off, but it was being quite stubborn so I finally decided to just go without the dust cover. I'm guessing that I messed up the shock mount when trying to get it off the shock...at least the shock mounts I was replacing are in good condition, so I think I'm just gonna use those (they look like they're e46 mounts too).

umm, yer missing 2 metal plates that go above and below the RSM...at least thats what it looks like.

What metal plates are you referring to? The z3 reinforcement plates were in place as can be seen in the 2nd pic, I didn't show them in the 3rd pic. And theres no metal plate below, it's a (paper?) gasket that fits between the shock mount and the sheet metal.

See that metal washer that is concave on top of the shock mount? There is another one just like it that goes below that. Also, a bump stop.

you put them together wrong like others stated. I've had E46 cabby mounts in my car for 4 years, never had a problem with them.

oh yeah, you really don't need a bump stop on the rear of an E30. I took mine out to make adjusting the konis easy..

The guys are right. Your missing parts below the shock mount. The shock mounts are fine however the install you obviously missed some pieces. Anyways get the right spacer/washers, and a shock shaft cover and reinstall it and you should be golden. If need be look at the diagram on REALOEM to get some hints.
                      Cheers,
