:POLL: Whats the stiffest rates you would run on the street "DD"

Im look at getting 500F 625R springs for my ix (DD on they weekdays, semi competitive race on the weekends). Ive never really experienced that stiff on the street.

Whats is the stiffest rates you would run on the street?

EDIT. Oh yeah eventually it will be turbo'd nothing tooo extensive though

I daily 450f 650r on my 318is and its not bad at all. Adjustable konis help a lot though, With the dampeners set all the way to still it was too much for a dd, but halfway is actually a comfortable ride, even on the freeway for a few hours it doesn't bother me at all.

Yeah - get some Konis, set them to near full soft and you're set for a comfortable cruise even on extremely harsh spring rates. If you don't run adjustables with super short/stiff springs, you'll end up sitting on the bump stop of the stock boges or even Billy Hd's/sports. The ride will suck massively. SA's solve the proble. Tighten them back to taste for the track and you're set.

Konis arent made to be set to full soft or full hard tho.

BTW i have 450f/750r on a 318iS and i love it!

450f/750r on mine. they ride fine. one factor you need to consider is that Konis SA front shocks will not handle more than 500# without being revalved for those kinda spring rates. they do however sell a race shock which will handle it, but its $$$. i have no experience with bilsteins.

I have 500front/650rear rates on bilstein sports. The ride is fine if you don't slam the car down, it was very noticiable improvement when I jacked the car up about 3/4-1" front/rear.
I am looking to upgrade my suspension to have a better match spring to shock wise for this season, can't afford Motons yet... lol

I would not go any stiffer upfront for a daily, rear can go up though.

I want to go to a 500-550lb spring in the front, and i did not know that the Koni SA wouldnt be able to handle above a 500lb... thanks for the info!

550f/650r on my turbo car. Once I get the new track coils for it, those GCs will go on my vert.

I rock 670F/800R on my coils on the street. The other setup is 850F/1100R. Its not used on the street really. :)

We initially ran 570 front, 750 rear on our AST4100 coilovers on our E30 ('91 318is). After extensive testing back to back the car was faster with 570 rears. This is a goofy autocross set-up where we can't have a LSD so we have to keep it somewhat soft in the rear to keep it hooked up.




That's a fast 3rd gear corner at max grip, with the stock 318is swaybars (tiny) and the 570/570 springs. Made 0.9g lateral on a slick asphalt skidpad with these Hankook Z212 street tires (200 treadwear).

Car is daily driven, its not too bad at full soft on the ASTs.
