    TRUE e30 rear coilover setup..

So I can't find any normal spring perches for the e30, ground control wont sell them separately... all I need is the rear setup because i was able to transfer the m3 coilover setup from the e36, what do you guys think about the Irelend engineering true e30 rear coilover setup?

E30 Rear Coil Over Kit - This is a real coil over that puts the spring on the shock. These threaded sleeves slip over the rear shocks. An inner lip prevents the sleeve from sliding down the shock. There is 3" of adjustment. These are designed to use a 1 7/8" ID spring. Springs are not included. Springs generally run about $50 each. The kit includes 2 sets of threaded sleeves, upper and lower spring perches.

It seems cool and all but.. I don't know, the Germans engineered this car like how it is for a reason, i don't know how safe it would be to stick the springs on the shocks themselves.. kinda weird.. not sure what to think about it. The perches are $130.00, no springs included.

If I were to ever do something this dumb to a street car, I'd reinforce the shit out of the shock towers.

        fixed.

you don't need true coilovers to drive over a bridge and through the woods, just need to drive like a fucking asshat, I know you can it

how long till those threads corrode or strip.. that style of adjuster sucks too, compared to the clamping method GC uses.

Vorshlag sells rear adjusters as well iirc, but they are the fake coilover kind. Same price, wayyyy better quality no doubt.

Bad idea. Rear shock mounts wear out fast enough as it is. Imagine putting the force of your rear springs on those biotches.....they'll be dead in a few miles.

I have worked as a machinist in the past making parts for aerospace and military aircraft. I can tell you without a doubt that threaded collar is the crappiest machining I have ever seen. I mean the picture speaks a thousand words.

The feeds and speeds are way cranked up for mass production. The quality of the steel itself is suspect too. You can see on the inside where the metal is smeared from blown out tooling, lack of coolant, too fast of a feed rate. And the threads, look at all the porosity in the threads.

IE = Garbage. Thats just completely unfit to sell for the purpose intended.

That threaded collar is what is intended as the main load bearing part of the setup. I would not trust that at all in any car. Someone is going to get hurt with that kind of garbage.

ok, to be on a serious level here: i have seen a few good things come from IE. i can say that anything that requires actual metal work (fab, welding, threads, ect) SUCK BALLS! mounts are about the best thing that works from them. a machine shop can always make you some perches from whatever material youd like (and can afford) and they will prob take their time and do it right. if it fails, go back to them and ask wtf is goin on.

IE sells ground control sleeves/perches without the rest of the kit.

That rear design is NOT safe of matter what you do. The only way you could make that work is if you limit rear shock travel. Reinforcing tower is a given, but flipping the shock upside down, and cutting piston short would be what you'd want to do. If you do that, you may as well redesign rear suspension or get e28.
