    Do 89-91 e30 coupe shocks & springs fit my 1993 325i convertible e30?

    Hi Everyone!

I just purchased a Laguna Green 1993 325ic e30 convertible and I'm already looking for suspension to drop it. I am wondering, are shocks and springs from the regular e30 89-91 coupe interchangeable with mine? I've read that shocks are the same, but I will need specific springs for my convertible. I want to go with KYB shocks and Ireland Engineering 3 springs for it (That is the setup i've used with my other e30 coupes). Please advise, and thanks in advance! :)

The valving is slightly different between coupe & cabrio struts due to the difference in weight. However, they are also optimal when used with a suitable/matching/tuned spring. Since lots of people mix and match springs without regard for whether they mate well it tends to be butt dyno. H&R sells a cabrio cup kit which is a tuned set but they are Bilstein which I will never again install on anything I drive.

FYI the Koni yellow speced for the cabrio is NOT top adjustable, meaning you would have to pull the strut to tweak it which is just dumb. Hence I used sedan struts in my cabrio and have never looked back. YMMV
