    Best Street Track Tire??

me and some people are building a race e30 but keeping it street legal.. we have wheels for it 15" x 8" just wondering from experience what is a good and bad tire. looking for something 225/45/15 and something like a 150- treadwear tire rack has a hankook rs3 in that size for a good price and 140 treadwear. good or bad??? some ideas??

these tires are not going to be used in comp. and the car will rarely see the streets i just need good very gripy tires for the street

I run the nitto NT01's and they are great. I have a spare set of 225/45/r15 if you need them. 90% tread. Let me know.

Im runing Kumho Ecxsta XS, not sure if they would be up to what your looking to do, but I have major issue trying to break traction with them.

do you like the XS's? i'm thinking of getting them in 245/35/18. how's the lateral grip on them? hows the breakaway feeling?

If that's the size you are looking for, it's basically the Hankook RS-3 and Toyo R1R.

Ran the rs2 a few times and it was quite good in the wet, dry is good but not up to par with top tier tires (like the xs, re-01, *specs, etc). Stay away from the rt615's though, on track they overheat quickly and get very greasy.

I don't have much track experience, but I did not like the Azenis very much. They overheat pretty easily and get greasy quickly. The Hankooks on the other hand I liked a lot, and were phenomenal in the rain.

However, both of these brands are a few years old now, so I would suggest going with a more recently released tire. My vote is the Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Spec if you can find it in your size. My buddy has them on his E36 and has tracked his car and found them to be amazing in the wet and dry. Just go read some of the reviews on Tire rack.

                    Toyo R888... lol.

no really, they wear fine on the street and cost about the same as a regular street tire (maybe even cheaper than some). Plus they come in 225/45 or 235/50-r15, which is perfect for a 15x8.

How many miles you got on them now Chris? Saw your setup issues with them, from all the different thread I have seen about them sounds like they are very picky to try and setup.

I have tracked a few sets. I bought 3 sets of 4 from tirerack a year ago and got them cheap. I have a set for autoX/track days and a set on my street tires (I like to use the same tires for both so I know how they perform in all situations, help me drive better IMO).
They work very well in the rain, I could not be happier. I have only ran them at 2 track days in the wet and the only complaint is when you reach the 60-70mph range in a really hard corner in the wet they plow a bit in the rear before they let go, almost like a slip grip, slip grip sensation. That could be how may car is set up but either way I am very happy with them. The extra set I have has 3 weeks of street driving on them before my car was put on jackstands for the motor swap. They are in like new shape.

Let me know is you are interested. I will let them go for $350 shipped.

must be about 3,000 by now, + 1 autox and 1 track day. Trying to get some stock strut mounts from Adam so I can redo the passenger side camber.. I think -3.3 degrees is too much for the R888s. I might try to make them adjustable this time, but it was pretty tight in there before. other than the FR they seem to be wearing pretty well.

I've had the RS3s on for a few days now and I've been very pleased so far. Excellent dry traction, both cornering and accel/decel. They seem very close to my NT-01's in the same size, at least on the street. Not very noisy at all. Stiff sidewalls, but not so bad with the 225/45-15's. They definitely put much more rubber on the ground compared to the RS2s, and probably more than the Bridgestone RE-01r's that I have on my Rabbit. No word on wet traction yet.
