Yes they are technically required. If you go to any serious tire shop, they will have technical data regarding what width of tires can be mounted on what width of rims. Both for handling and safety considerations.

Or go to a semi slick, They are generally a fair bit wider than conventional tyres. My 205 r888 was even wider than my old 225 falken fk452's.Leave a comment:
