I can say with almost 100% certainty that crack has NOTHING to do with Powdercoating.
I have a K1 under my glass coffee table that has that exact same damage. K1's are light, but they are NOT super strong. They will crack like that if you wail them hard.

Oh, and my cracked wheel is a 17" off an e36. 15" E30 ones are more robust as there is less leverage and shorter/thicker spokes.

love the black wheels. but i would have gone with et22 and rolled the fender lips in with a baseball bat to get that extra 1/2in clearance...

chris wtf are you doing here?

are you a metallurgist? i'm just posting what i saw. the fact that multiple wheels on the same car were showing stress fractures at the same time, coupled with the fact that brent drives like a grandma on the street and that the shop that did the pcoating did not pre-bake causing the metal to outgas.

regardless, k1's are cheap and replaceable. if i crack one, it's only 129 for another one:)

15" K1s are VERY resistant. Trust me.... if they havent cracked with me by now, then they are worthy wheels.

And the day one cracks, it's like pasha said: $129 a wheel, easily replaced.

Just offering the other side of the coin for contemplation. I'd be hesitant to place blame on PC'ing as mine is EXACTLY the same damage, and its due to age.

I agree that tracking can/will lead to wheel fatigue but I also think K1's are strong (especially for the price.) This is why they are the most popular wheels in Spec-class roadracing.

I've had 5 sets of K1's on 4 different tracked/autoxed cars and never had a problem with any of 'em. However, I do inspect 'em before every event just to be safe. And I can't remember the last time I saw a cracked one locally/regionally... it's been a while.

brake dust appears as a brown dust, and is quite visible... :(
i have black weaves, and i thought i wouldnt have to clean anymore. but sadly, i do.

Yeah, black dosent really do anything with regards to break dust. Like golde30 mentioned, just makes your wheels look brown.

Best finish for brake dust has to be Kinesis' dull grey color that i've seen on some of their centers.
