    Refinishing eureo weaves- Questions

I've read a few threads I found via google on other sites about DIY wheel refinishing. Not sure yet if I'm going to paint them myself or have them powdercoated yet, but that's not really the part I'm concerned about.

There is curb rash on some of the wheels that needs to be fixed. I've seen both body fill and JB weld used to build up the area that was scraped away. I'm leaning towards the JB weld cause it seems stronger and harder than the body fill would be. What is R3v's opinion? Could I still have them powdercoated with either of those fillers in them? How do you guys do your DIY refinishes?

You and I are in the same boat. I'm going to paint because powdercoating doesn't have quite the same finish as OEM paint and I want the OEM look. I also read the process weakens the wheel. I have seen people either sand or use bondo to fix curb rash. It's just superficial damage that just requires a filler. I'm just going to sand/strip the wheel, primer, paint then clearcoat. Use multiple coats and wait until they dry. Tires will be left on the rim. I just worry about being able to sand all of the nooks and crannies of the basketweaves.

I did it years ago. it's a LOT of work.

Paint works and looks nice but it doesn't hold up as well as powdercoat. I used automotive grade paint and it held up well for about 5 years. I'm not sure I would ever do that again.

I'm thinking of having mine powdercoated and using them as winter wheels (I'm so SICK of bottlecaps! lol). But here's the rub - the cost of having them refinished could be $150 per wheel or more. *brand new* euroweaves are about $200 each (from blunt). I have a neighbor who is a powdercoater so I might get a good deal, but if it's over $150/per I might as well buy new.

And he's just a powdercoater so there's no guarantee of them being round or straight anymore, they are 20+ years old by now.

I was told while refinishing my wheels that products like JB Weld will not bind with the powdercoat. I cannot remember the name of the bonding reagent my powdercoater recommended but it was available at Home Depot. If your just gonna spraybomb them then you may be fine. I personally will be using Wurth wheel paint and clear.

As for refinishing weaves, more power to ya. Its a PITA just to clean them, let alone prep for paint. Send them out for media blasting at least. Im gonna spray my set of tstar reps hopefully within the next few weeks. Its a much easier wheel to finish.

Well the euros are partially sanded down, so I really have no choice now...I'm hoping to make these ok looking, they might just go on my daily, but I do want to have them blasted and fix the rash/paint.

I'm wondering if body fill is really good enough for a wheel lip.

What about JB weld and then sand/shape it. I doubt body filler will do the trick.

I used body filler on mine, it worked fine for paint. Hasn't chipped off or anything, there were some pretty serious gouges too.

use techno weld for filling in rash. Fill it in, sand/dremel down and paint.

The problem I have with using bondo is that it isnt as strong as JB weld IMO. When installing tires I feel like the bondo will crack. Techno weld is the best option but is time consuming. Refinishing wheels takes A LOT of work if theyre fucked up.

Youre neighbor shouldnt charge you that much for powdercoating. The cost isnt fucking crazy. Prep is a bitch, ask him how much if you did the prep. I charge anywhere from 120$ for a SET to 250 for a SET pending what type of wheels and what needs to be done with them.

Edit, yea jb weld or body filler wont bond with PC. You would have to use paint. Techno weld should bond with PC.

good thing I stumbld on this thread. I was thinking of buying some trashed euroweaves and refinishing them. but that doesnt seem like the most economical thing.

Does anyone know if they offer euroweaves in the white with polished lips like the OEM weaves for white mtechs?

I don't have time to go through the effort of prepping a set of 5 euro weaves again, or I would.

Its not that hard to make a set.

I just did a set of euroweaves that had multiple areas of rash but no serious gouging. I filed that shit till it looked good and painted them with duplicolor wheel paint and 4 coats of clear. I have a blast cabinet so i thoroughly blasted them first. The tire machine didnt remove any paint mounting the tires and the paint had only been dry 8 hours. we will see how they hold up but im easy on street wheels.

We powder coated the whole thing white then he got 2 17x8 style 5s that we did n white/polished lip so we turned the 16s into the same by polishing the lip.
