Are 18's really to big for an e30????

I'm starting to think not. Was planning on getting 17's for my vert. Stock wheel size is 205 55 15. A 215 40 17 would actually be smaller in diameter (although it is 10mm wider). The 205 55 15 's look too small as is. I really don't think 18's would be to big. Opinions? Any one on 18's? Pics?

I found this one and the wheels don't look to big at all:

I want a nice set of smoked MHW's (I know, get it line)

its up to you, if you like it, go for it. i have seen 22" w/ spinner on an e30 before, it makes me LOL though.

I think 17s look better. There is not enough tire on an 18in wheel.

the 5 spoke leaves too much "open" area on an 18. especially if you have stock brakes

18s can look amazing if done right, and horrible if not. But you will be running a mega rubber band tire, your wheels will be boat anchors and it will be a bit much if the rest of your car isn't aggressive enough to match.

I've seen an M3 with 19s (Ryan G's) and it looked stunning. But if he didn't pick the right wheels, the right size and offset and if his car wasn't as clean as it was it would probably look horrid.

I think an M3 can get away with it for obvious reasons but 17" is the biggest I would go on a regular E30. Keep in mind there are a lot of negatives when it comes to oversized (assuming they are the stock overall diameter) wheels... expensive tires, weight, increased risk of bending rims and for what? Looks? Do you have an 18" 4x100 wheel in mind?

No I don't unfortunately. I really want a bbs style wheel and I will most likely be going with esm 002 17's, I really don't like the idea of putting a wheel with a smaller diameter on my car than stock. But that looks like what I have to do.
OP, those stock brakes and large open wheels make me lol.
I stock had brakes on my e36 with hamann hm2 reps 18's (If Photobucket were working I'd show you).

18's might be a bit too big bud. If you like it go for it, just don't come back here and start a thread with an asinine title like "I <3 haters" and get pissed off when everyone tell you to go smoke a pole.

Like stated before, if done right, yes 18's CAN work.

I thought 17's on mine were going to be too big... but alas.

Huh? An e30 comes with a 14, pretty much anything is going to be larger.

I think he was referring to the overal rolling diameter of the wheel/tire combination. 215/40/17 is slightly smaller than stock diameter but only by a very small margin. In fact, it's the tire that is closest to stock. 235/40/17 is about 2% over. Play with a few online tire calculators to give you ideas.
