How to check clearance without actually driving the car?

    How to check clearance without actually driving the car?

    Is there a way to check tire / fender lip clearance without driving the car?

    Is it okay to put a jack under the control arm or hub and compress the suspension like that?

    As in you want to check the clearance while the suspension is under load?
    I'm confizzled.

      Why don't you just take it off the jack stands? Then turn the wheels. Or are you worried about compressing specific points like entering driveways? If so a jack under the control arm isn't gonna ruin it, either choose a strong looking point or use a 2x4 to disperse the weight.
      I have friends who are EOD bro.

        Yes! I want to see of the outside sidewall will foul the fender lip (non-rolled) with the steering wheel at full lock and the suspension fully compressed... like going up and down driveways.

          Although it has wide fenders, big wheels often will rub either on the body behind the wheel or plastic liner in front and occassionally grab the fender lip on inclines while turning. How to stop it? ....stock wheels and tire dimensions and stockish ride height suspension.

            You can definitely put a jack under the arm with no ill effect, but I'd honestly just try it out on a driveway and have a spotter.
            To be honest, almost every lowered car at full lock will touch fender when tilted going up a driveway. In lots of Member's Ride threads you see a tiny bit of fender pulled out from it haha.

              Yes you can jack one corner. It helps a lot to disconnect the sway bar when you are doing this, otherwise it's hard to get one side to tuck enough.

                  So, I rolled slowly down the driveway and then cranked the wheel to full lock. No rubbing!!!

                        Yeah mon. My mistake - for some dumb reason I thought I was the only one that had to run spacers on the E38 Style 5

                        I used a 12mm spacer at the back, which may be a lil much. But the wheel is flush, and it looks purty.
