Why are basketweaves considered "hot" E30 wheels?

Please inform me. When I look at my car and the weaves on it, all I see are lame, ugly, hard-to-clean wannabe BBS rims that date my car squarely in the 1980s.

What's the attraction? If the answer is "cause they're fuh raze urban lightweight, yo!" then why don't you look around other aftermarket wheels like Rays CE28Ns or Racing Hart CPs?

I think basketweave style rims look great on E30's, although 14's are too small

yea, bmw did it right the first time. Weaves all the way. Although they are hard to clean. But if you buy them brand new and take care of them. you will have no problems.

They are a timeless design that fit the car perfectly.. especially 15". Not only are they styleful.. but also sturdy and light.. hence why tehy are $texas new.
Just look how many new cars have similar rims or atleast offsprings of them.

e30s are block shaped cars. They're geometrical with a few curves here and there. This design theme is along the same angled styling of the basketweave. The rims you mentioned are curve dominated designs that suite a jellybean/egg shape car, like Civics or most cars from the mid-90s.

But a 14" weave doesnt look that good on an e30. Too small and not deep enough. Blocky cars like ours with a pronounced fender lip like some dish in their rim. Try an ACT/Ronal LS or 15" BMW weave.

          ps. BMW basketweaves are BBS

 I had to read that Threve times to remember what it was from, HA!

14" weaves are nappy, 15" Weaves are the ape-tits. Wonder how an inch makes such a difference? Ask any girl....

We do, hence the more recent Kosei K-1/SSR Comp craze.

Basketweaves are appealing because they're lightweight and yet still keep all the purists happy.

                Duh.

I've always wondered the same thing Iain. I am going to step on a few toes by saying this, but I honestly think they are so popular because they are cheap, easy to find, and fit perfectly. Not because they look great or anything, but you can get 14" baskets for around $200 and 15" for $300-400, and you can't get anything aftermarket for that cheap.

I personally do not like weaves. I would not like them in 17" any more than I like them in 14". Well, maybe a little better, but not much.

I think it is the same kind of thing as people who have straight hair want curly, etc...I was 21 when the E30 came out. All anyone ever had was Ronal Turbos, R9's, DP's or baskets. I think I am just permanently burned out on them.

Nothing against anyones taste. Just don't like 'em.

I know they're not OEM BBS, but these Ronal Weaves are sweet

Its strictly a matter of opinion though. I agree, price is a major factor, but only because you can't buy wheels of that quality, weight, and somewhat classiness for $250/set.

                            Weaves are teh cheap.

And they are period correct. If you have bottlecaps, they are an upgrade. if you get them in Nogaro (or make them that way) or gold, I think they are a nice wheel.

                            Are they modern? no.

                            Are they OZ Futuras? No.
