Yes, my IS can overwhelm a good pair of 14"s if I am pushing hard but obviously that thresh hold comes at much slower speeds with a crap pair. I drive a lot of low traffic back roads on my daily commute but now and again I will come around a bend to see a sheriff coming the other way. With crap tires and rain I have come around corners starring straight at a oncoming Sheriff with the car twitching for traction on or under the posted speed limit. So far I have never had a cop give to much interest while driving the e30 on the limit. Now when I use to travel the same roads and try to have fun in my old e60 m5 I had different results. When cops see you in a flashy load car traveling double+ over the posted MPH they tend to interject themselves into your daily life a little more than in a old beater e30 with crap tires sliding around a bit near the posted MPH =P
Perhaps, you missed the "you don't know how to drive like an idiot part."

Anyway, bad tires are bad inasmuch that when the time comes to need grip you are SOL. I have continued to opt for a decent tire on my 318s, and use Sumitomo HTRs P01s, which provide fair grip, decent performance in the rain, and can be overcome when necessary.

As to sliding through a corners with a police officer looking on, reckless driving can happen at 1 MPH. Frankly, I would be more inclined to suspect that police officers would be happier with people doing 2x the limit "safely," using signals, leaving room, etc, than sliding around.

      Hope you don't bin it.

I was going to say Douglas, those things smoke really nice too. And they last forever, we used to do burnouts all the time. Sold them 2 years later with bottlecaps and they still looked good.

195/65/14 is the correct size for E30 and to have speedometer showing correct speed.

195/65/14 is getting hard to find so I see people using incorrect tire a 195/60/14

          14". Lol.
Stock 14" wheel is the best wheel for your E30.

My head hurts trying to understand OPs thought process. However, tire rack sells Fuzion Tourings for $42/ea and they have a reasonably shitty consumer rating.

Here's one review..."What can I say about these tires. They slide in the wet weather, they slide in the snow, they only function on PAVED road that is dry. They are supposedly long life because they are such hard rubber but there is no traction just controlled slides to get to your location so if you know what your doing when a car looses control that's fine..."

              You're welcome. I guess.

                HAHAHAHAH

My high school friend who was a very successful motorcycle racer followed this same line of thinking.

If you can go fast on a shitty tire, you can be absolutely amazing on a good tire because you already know what your vehicle is about to do, and you've made the corrections before at a slower pace.

                FRS/BRZ? Prius tires. Go figure.
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

Me thinks OP should get a front wheel drive car, and steal some lunch trays...Drive over them with the back tires, pull the hand brake, and have at it.

I guess front wheel drive has its place in the automotive world. I'd have never guessed.
