Which tire company makes "skinnier" tires

    Hey guys,

I'm no newcomer to fitment and tires. I do have a question about which tires run "skinnier." I remember with my MKV GTI I was running 17x8/9 with 205/40s on 8 and 215/40 on 9s. These were falken 512s which were undoubtely one of the best for stretch. Unfortunately these are discontinued and I've noticed tire companies are making their tires wider. There was one time where I got falken 502 in 205/40 and it didn't even stretch on a 8 in wide wheel. Which leads me to my question is there any companies that still make their tires "skinnier?" I've been doing alot of digging and even 195/40 yokohama sdrives, while a great tire, on a 8 does me no good for the wheels I'm planning to run on the beemer. Also does anyone know any places where I can find a decent selection on 16 in tires?

What tire are you trying to put on what sized wheel?
What do you mean 205/40 didn't stretch on an 8"? I've had 205/45's on an 8" long ago and even that was stretched lol.
You've got some high standards man. :p

I'm looking around for 195/40(45)/16 on 8 wide.

And regarding that 205/40 it was a Falken 502 seriously I'm not joking it did not stretch AT ALL, the sidewall was not slanted at all it was straight up and down.

My acceptable idea of stretch is a very narrow band... lol Im picky... I mean it is going on my car right....? lol

edit... I guess I should also say... the offset of the wheels pretty damn low cant get an accurate measurement right now since the faces are a the powdercoater... But they wont clear the fronts brakes and are 5x114.3 so I will be running 18mm adapters which will push it to 0(? guessing) maybe...

I am not sure how you were not stretch with a 205 on a 8" rim. The min width for an 8" should be around 215 and ideal should be aroun 225-235. 195 is going to be way stretched on an 8". Love to see pics of that! 195 is ideal for a 6.5" rim and the minimum on a 7"

Tires come in different sizes, you don't need to search for a skinny version of a certain size.

Of course it can be done, but why? And thats really not the safest way to go.

Oh I am well aware that it is possible.....and the pitfalls/shortcomings of doing so. Just giving the OP a visual aid.

Some companies tires are smart than others even though they have the same 'dimensional' size stamped on the outside.
