Machining down hub to gain offset?

Is it possible to machine down the hub of a wheel to gain offset? I am looking at a set of ESM 002 16x8 et20 that are a steal of a price, but since I have an IX I need higher offset around et28-35 to make em fit without super stretched tire. I have heard that you can turn em down with a lathe a little bit but not confident about taking 8mm off the hub. Not entirely sure that it would work considering the hub would be decreased in strength considerably.

Any input or anybody willing to say that I am totally crazy and it's a dumbass idea?

I wouldn't. The "meat" of the wheel is designed for strength, especially around the lugs. A mm maybe, but not 8.

    My opinion only.

Not unless you add material on the other side. There isn't much meat at the bolt holes, and you need something to clamp on.

ESM always has bullshit sizes that change all the time. They're all straight from china anyway. Find another manufacturer that makes the same style and get it in a different offset. Or just run better wheels on your ix

it's a Kenny Powers quote on wheels

Yeah I was planning on getting some Konig wheels but these popped up locally and seemed to good to pass up.

I did it to a set of factory BMW wheels once but only 2-3mm. I wouldn't trust doing that to ESM wheels. Cheap wheels= cheap production (as little material as possible)

We thought the same thing about Chinese wheels on the race car. They did last 3yrs of hard racing, many off track excursions and a meeting with a wall at Daytona, though...
