      They're ET27, so I'll have to run some spacers to run the 235/40/17's I'm interested in. Fender rolling too, meh. It'll be worth it. I can only imagine what 40mm extra width on each corner will feel like.

        It's a matter of money. My 8.5x17 are $320 a peice. Plus, I'd run the same tire size, as 235/40R17 is the max width you can run on a 7.5x17inch rim width ('95 M3s came stock with 7.5s with 235's all around). I worried about sidewall rollover, but was told by some sources that it wouldn't be that noticeable a factor.

        I was planning on picking up an extra set of the same wheels I have now but with 9.5s out back so that way I'd use my current non-staggered set for track use, have the *blinging* staggered setup with 265 rears for street, and that is still the main plan. I'm just trying to minimize costs with the new engine goin in this december.         In summary, I'd have the same traction with 235s on the 7.5 inch wheels and they weigh the same as my 8.5s. Anyway, I wouldnt really say that 1 inch distinguishes between a "SUPER WIDE RIM" and a "SKINNY RIM" as you so elegantly put it :roll: . But seriously, I'm open to suggestions, I've been struggling with this for a while.


        88325is: Yea, sometimes I wish I could run 15's, hell, even 16s, but nothing under 17 for me. I still would rather have my brakes than the ability to run 15s (especially since what I've been working on this past week, lets just say I got different front and rear calipers, they start with a "B".)
        Also, I'm sick of e30s with modded s50's and their 205s, 215s, or 225s struggling to get traction. 17s are the best way to get wide tires and keep a large selection.

        No need to get offended. I didn't know you could run 235's on Kopis or any 7.5" width rims. Sounds like a nice plan. Although on Robbie's car, the car just BARELY cleared 215's with the 20mm offset. What offset are your 8.5"ers?

          I wasn't offended at all. But I did want to make that sarcastic comment in response to, in my opinion, your poor choice of words. After the comment I was actually asking you for suggestions to try and let you know that I wasn't taking it personally. Egh, anyway... I run et20 on 8.5x17 soon to be et15 with my Brembo fixed 4 piston calipers. I've never had any fender clearance issues. However, when I go et15 up front, I'll be pulling my fenders a bit to get a little more of a flare. When I go 9.5x17 rear, I will probably end up around et20 with pulled fenders also. All the wheels are et30, and I have a set of 10mm hubcentric spacers and a set of 15mm hubcentric spacers so I've played around with offsets. I was running a set of 8mm spacers for a while and had no problems, but I didnt like the fact that they were non-hubcentric and the wheel barely had any hub sticking out to grab onto.

            With Kopis and 215/40/17s and the cupkit I can barely fit my finger between the rear tire and the fender. The front is just about as bad.

                yea, lower rear arches and a soft suspension don't give any leeway for substantial rubber, but you could get away with bigger rubber front and rear with a stiff suspension, even on later cars with the lower arch, but nothing beats that higher arch to get some serious rubber down if you need it.

                        Definitly looking to upgrade to koni yellows and GC sometime in the future. Right now the cupkit and the IE sway bars seem to be holding out fine.

                                For the most part I agree. They make the brakes look like brakes from a Geo Metro. But in a lot of cases, I like the 17's.
